The Uses of Medical Hypnotherapy - Headaches, Asthma, IBS, Surgery, and Childbirth
by Anonymous

April 25, 2004 -- On Thursday, April 29, 2004, 8:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Pacific, Corydon Hammond, Ph.D., and Horace Simmons will discuss how medical hypnotherapy improves people's lives on the webcast talk show "On the Path to Health, Your Mind is Key". Dr. Hammond is a past president of American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and a professor at University of Utah School of Medicine. Articles on many of these topics are available, with medical references, on the website www.MindIsKey.com.

Hypnotherapy has a long history of providing lasting relief of headaches, whether they be migraine or tension headaches. The effect is immediate, and lasting. Self-hypnosis may be taught to support the person in resolving future stress problems.

Asthma is actually a problem of disordered breathing. There is no underlying physical cause. Doctors have used hypnosis to cure asthma for more than 50 years. Success rates reported in medical journals are better than 80%. Treatment time usually runs 1 to 3 hours, with lasting effects. Both therapeutic hypnosis with the doctor, and self-hypnosis have been used.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is another chronic disorder that is successfully treated with hypnosis. In fact, hypnosis is the only effective treatment for severe IBS. Follow-up studies more than 8 years later show complete remission.

A review of the literature indicates that hypnosis improves patient outcomes after surgery. Patients recover faster, and have shorter hospital stays. They also experience less pain, and need less pain medication. Broken bones heal faster with the use of hypnosis, as do injuries like whiplash.

Hypnosis is used in childbirth to allow the mother to experience the birth of her child while experiencing no pain. The time spent in labor is dramatically reduced, and the newborn child is usually healthier, and not burdened with drug residues. A number of other problems such as nausea during pregnancy and premature delivery can also be treated successfully.

You can learn more by listening to the webcast talk show "On the Path to Health, Your Mind Is Key". This program is available at www.MindIsKey.com on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 8:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Pacific. The interview is also rebroadcast 12 hours later.
